Steven Arnold, M.D.
Dr. Steven E. Arnold is a Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School and the E. Gerald Corrigan PhD Endowed Chair in Alzheimer Therapeutics at Massachusetts General Hospital. After completing training in both neurology and psychiatry, he joined the faculty at the University of Pennsylvania, where he served as Professor of Psychiatry and Neurology, Director of the Penn Memory Center, Associate Director and Clinical Core Leader of the Alzheimer’s Disease Core Center, and Associate Director of the university’s Institute on Aging.
In 2015, Dr. Arnold moved to Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School to lead the Alzheimer’s Clinical and Translational Research Unit, conducting early-phase clinical trials and biomarker research. He also serves as Managing Director of the Interdisciplinary Brain Center, a collaboration among the Departments of Neurology, Psychiatry, and the Martinos Center for Neuroimaging.
Dr. Arnold has conducted longstanding research on neurodegenerative disease pathology, molecular biomarkers, and therapeutics for cognitive decline and psychiatric syndromes in late life, leading broad clinical and translational research programs. He has authored more than 400 scientific articles, reviews, and book chapters. His current research interests include biomarkers of brain aging and dementias, immune and metabolic factors driving dementia, and novel precision approaches to clinical trial design.
Dr. Arnold received his M.D. from Boston University. He completed residency training in Psychiatry at the New York State Psychiatric Institute/Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, followed by a Neurology residency at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. He also completed fellowship training in Behavioral Neurology/Cognitive Neuroscience and a postdoctoral appointment in Neuroanatomy at the University of Iowa. Dr. Arnold is board certified in both neurology and psychiatry.
